Nothing tastes like summer quite as much as a fresh slice of watermelon. But when you try to pick out a ripe one, it’s basically a guessing game. Not if you know this super-easy trick.
What you do: The next time you go to grab a watermelon at the farmers’ market, resist the urge to lift it up and shake it. Instead, search the rind for the ground spot (aka the area where the melon touched the ground as it grew). If the patch is a cream or yellow tone, the watermelon is ripe. If it’s light green or white, it’s not.
But that’s so simple. Now all you have to worry about is how to carry it home.
