With the weather turning colder, the mind and body naturally crave warm food and drink. Hot soup and beverages, like cider, come quickly to mind—but what about warm dips?
Hot dips are a great way to surprise, as well as warm up family and friends. When most of us see dips, we expect them to be cold, so warm dip is a delightful surprise. In my experience, they are always popular and go quickly.
What is also great about warm dips is that they are not especially complicated or difficult to make. Many call for just combining all the ingredients in a food processor, pouring the mixture into a casserole dish, and letting it bake. Just remember to leave enough time for it to bake in the oven and set, if you are serving guests that evening or taking it out for a party.
Warm Artichoke Dip
There are lots of great warm artichoke dip recipes, which include spinach, bacon, or other ingredients. But the fact is, warm artichoke dip stands up very well on its own, and is super easy to make. In a food processor, just combine the mix of ingredients (adding last artichoke hearts patted dry), and pulse until they are mixed but still a little chunky. Then bake until lightly browned, let set, and serve.
Baked Goat Cheese Dip
The ingredients and process are very similar to the warm artichoke dip recipe, except goat cheese is the major ingredient, and it can go in at the same time as the other ingredients. If you want to add color and additional taste, you can create a simple tomato mixture to go on top of the dish after it bakes, or serve it on the side.
Buffalo Chicken Dip
Since we are well into football season, and basketball and hockey season have just kicked off, we should give some space to a dish that re-invents a traditional sport-watching favorite: chicken wings. Almost everyone loves chicken wings, which are greasy and messy. But what if you could make a chicken wing dip with similar flavor, but less mess and unhealthy grease?
Buffalo chicken dip is the answer. In a saucepan, combine the ingredients, including shredded rotisserie chicken and hot sauce, then transfer to a pie plate or casserole dish. Top with crumbled blue cheese and stick in the oven.
